Setting Exercise Parameters in a Programme

How to set sets, reps, load, rest and other parameters on an exercise in the Creator, and how to change several exercises at once.

Written by Cloudia Barr

The Creator was rebuilt in September 2026. Exercise parameters are now set on the exercise row itself, as you add it, rather than on a separate Settings page. See What's New in the Creator for a summary of what changed.

Parameters are the numbers you prescribe against each exercise: how many sets and reps, how much load, how long to hold, how long to rest. In the Creator you set them directly on the exercise, in the programme list.

Setting parameters on the row

Every exercise you add to the programme arrives with parameter boxes on its row. Click into a box and type. There is nothing to save; the value is held as soon as you type it.

Setting sets and reps on the exercise row

Which boxes appear depends on the exercise. A timed exercise such as a plank shows Time and Hold; a strength exercise shows Sets and Reps.

Adding a parameter that is not showing

Click the cog at the end of the exercise row to add another parameter to that exercise.

The options are Load, Rest, Time, Hold, Times per day and Times per week, plus Custom for anything else you prescribe. The new box appears on the row straight away.

Choosing exactly which fields to show

For finer control, open the ... menu at the end of the row and choose Edit parameters.

Options available on each exercise row

This opens a box listing every available field. Tick the ones you want on this exercise and untick the rest. The Custom field box at the bottom adds a field of your own, such as Distance. Click Save changes when you are done.

Giving several exercises the same sets and reps

If two or three exercises need the same numbers, you do not have to type them out on each row. Select the exercises first, then edit them together.

Selecting and deselecting rows

Click an exercise row to select it, and click it again to deselect it. Hold cmd (or ctrl on Windows) and click to add more rows to the selection. Click the row itself rather than one of the parameter boxes; clicking into a box edits that number instead of selecting the exercise.

A bar appears above the list showing how many exercises you have selected, with four things you can do with them:

  • Edit params - set the same numbers on all of them.

  • Link as superset - run two neighbouring exercises back to back.

  • Remove - take them all out of the programme.

  • x - clear the selection and leave everything as it is.

Applying the numbers

Click Edit params and a box opens with Sets, Reps, Load, Rest, Time, Tempo and RPE, plus + Add param for anything else you prescribe, such as a hold or times per day. Type the numbers once and click Apply to write them to every exercise you selected.

Only the boxes you fill in are applied. Anything you leave blank stays exactly as it was on each exercise, so you can set the reps across three exercises without disturbing the sets you have already prescribed.

Applying the same sets and reps to two exercises

This replaces the old Apply Globally button. Select the exercises first, then edit.

Changing the title, description or media

The same ... menu on the row lets you Edit title and Edit description for this programme only, without changing the exercise in the library. Save to my exercises keeps your edited version as your own exercise for future use.

The chevron beside the cog expands the row so you can see the exercise video and images while you set the numbers.
